CASE STUDY :
An 18-month-old male child presented with abdominal pain and red-colored jelly-like stools and was brought in for an ultrasound examination.

Gray scale ultrasound images demonstrate telescoping of a long segment of terminal ileal loop (intussusceptum) into proximal colonic loop/cecum (intussuscipiens), resulting in a "bowel within bowel" configuration with a hyperechoic core giving a "classical target sign appearance". The adjacent mesentery appears echogenic and thickened; a few perilesional lymph nodes are also visible. Minimal free fluid is noted.

USG findings were suggestive of an ileo-colic intussusception.

The child underwent surgery and the results confirmed the diagnosis of ileo-colic intussusception as seen on ultrasound.
